Once Upon a Time

For a long time, I'd been considering running a game using John Tynes's Puppetland system and setting. I finally did it at Necronomicon 2004.

The setting is the surreal horror of world inhabited only by puppets and ruled by Punch the maker-Killer, and the system consists of the players speaking only in dialogue while the Storyteller is limited to NPC dialogue and third person past-tense narration. This results in a session that, if transcribed, would produce a nice (if somewhat surreal and scary) children's story.

It's not the easiest system to run, but neither is it the hardest. The challenge was worth it though; the players all enjoyed the game, and I received a trophy for Best Game.
